Strand Palace Hotel Sees Fast ROI from Interfaces Linking Hotel to Booking Agents, GDS
CLEVELAND - July 1st, 2009 - Agilysys, Inc. (Nasdaq: AGYS), a leading provider of innovative information technology and hospitality software solutions, has announced its first implementation of new two-way Open Travel Alliance (OTA)/Global Distribution System (GDS) reservation interfaces in the EMEA region. Strand Palace Hotel, a 786-room property in London, has implemented the interfaces, which link the Visual One Property Management System by Agilysys to the GDS as well as to a number of booking agents, including the global leaders Expedia and SynXis RedX Distribution Management System.
Strand Palace was already using Visual One Web, a Web-based real-time reservation system, to enable online shoppers to check availability and book room reservations directly into the Visual One Property Management System. The solution also enables packages and corporate and group rates to be booked online.
"After installing Visual One Web, we saw an immediate increase in reservations," said Ben Chapman, data administrator at Strand Palace Hotel. "Visual One Web accounted for 12 percent of our reservations, or 25,000 room nights a year. This increased month on month, with discounts offered as incentives to contracted corporate clients that booked online."
Implementation of the reservation interfaces is simple and yields immediate results. After the hardware is installed, OTA/GDS packages and room types are mapped to the Visual One Property Management System. Real-time availability, rates and restrictions are uploaded directly from the Visual One solution to vendor sites and the GDS. Reservations can then be created, changed or cancelled within the property management system. Booking agents are no longer required to e-mail or fax reservations; and manual entry of data as well as online updates on rates, availability and restrictions are eliminated.
"More than 25 percent of room nights year-to-date were made via the Visual One Web interfaces," said Chapman. "This allowed our reservations staff to spend more time with callers, which enhanced guest service. When bookings are received via interfaces, staff errors and reservations backlogs are eliminated, and agents can see 'live' availability, which enables us to sell all rooms without having to manually update every extranet and the OTA."
Strand Palace Hotel also uses a reservations monitor to track booking activity and report errors. Agilysys is currently expanding the scope of this feature to include monitoring the success of availability and restriction uploads.
