Carnival is Transforming the Cruise Passenger Experience

Nov 26, 2018

It’s fascinating to watch the booming cruise industry, a market that is leading a new generation of hospitality technology adoption and modernizing these floating hotels into smart cities.

One such cruise line is Carnival Corporation. Recently presented with the distinct CES Innovation Award which honors outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products, Carnival’s pre-cruise service allows passengers to register all their details prior to departure, from passport credentials to food preferences. Passengers are sent a wearable Ocean Medallion in advance, which offers intelligent navigation, like a car or phone GPS app. The coin-sized device is currently transforming vacations for those sailing aboard Princess Cruises, one of Carnival's leading cruise line brands. Princess Cruises promises passengers that there is no need for introductions when embarking, as the ship already knows once they board. The Ocean Medallion even helps parents keep an eye on their children’s whereabouts when aboard the ship. And the crew stands ready to address questions and requests even before passengers ask. With their smart technology, Carnival is raising the bar for elevated personalized service.

For a few days, the cruise experience is a passenger’s entire world. Get it right, and many will become lifetime customers. The cruise passenger experience brings an era of great opportunity.  Who wouldn’t want to stay on a floating palace at sea?
