WHAT'S THE BUZZ IN HOSPITALITY?

Students partner with Agilysys in Las Vegas

Feb 02, 2017

Students from Valley High School's Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT) program, a program that prepares students for post-secondary education in hospitality and tourism-related careers, recently visited the Agilysys office in Las Vegas.

The AOHT is a remarkable organization that prepares young people for positions in the hospitality industry. The program provides special curriculum with courses in customer service, event planning, marketing, sports entertainment, sustainable tourism - all very essential to our industry.

Because Valley High School offers its student population the unique chance to explore careers in hospitality, Agilysys was excited to receive the request from the AOHT Leadership and immediately agreed to host the students.

A group of approximately 55 students participated. They were divided into small groups and each group participated in five different learning track to see and hear about the various departments within the company, including engineering, sales, services, support and training. Each session was followed by a Q&A where Agilysys teams answered questions raised by students. In a comment from Karin Jones, AOHT Council Advisor, “Students were very enthusiastic and inspired by both the Agilysys team and the company's corporate culture.”

Agilysys values community involvement among its many core principles, and strives to build lasting connections throughout the communities it serves. Trisha Littlejohn, director of property management solutions at Agilysys, was so inspired by the experience that she joined the AOHT as an advisory board member.

The partnership continues to grow stronger. AOHT student participants supported the Agilysys annual user conference, Inspire 2017, last week in Las Vegas. The company invited students to the conference to learn more about hospitality technology, talk with customers and get a behind-the-scenes look at the industry. Inspire 2017 is an exclusive, customer event.
